LEXINGTON, Ky. – The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Monday, July 18 the recipients of the 2021-22 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award and Elon University volleyball was one of 1,213 collegiate and high school teams to earn the distinction.
Initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, the Team Academic award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

The Phoenix finished the 2021-22 academic year with a cumulative team GPA of 3.49. The fall semester saw three student-athletes named to the President’s List and three to the Dean’s List. The team then bettered that effort in the spring with three students earning President’s List honors and six earning Dean’s List honors. Elon also had 13 players named to the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for the fall semester and 12 for the spring semester.


On the court, the maroon and gold reached the CAA Championship final for the first time in program history. Elon finished the season 17-11 overall and 11-5 in conference play, the team’s best mark since joining the CAA, as well as going 9-2 on its home court. The Phoenix won its first five CAA matches, its best start to conference play in its NCAA Division I history, and earned CAA sweeps of Charleston, Delaware, UNCW and Hofstra.
