SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The North Dakota State men’s track & field team had four student-athletes voted to The Summit League’s Academic All-League team announced this week for the 2022 outdoor season.
Trevor Otterdahl, Benji Phillips, Jacob Rodin and Josh Samyn all earned the honor by virtue of their athletic and academic achievements.
Otterdahl (Rosemount, Minn.) graduated with a bachelor’s degree from NDSU in mathematics with a 3.96 cumulative GPA, and then earned an MBA with a 4.0 GPA. He was named the Summit League Outdoor Championships Field MVP, and qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in the hammer throw, shot put and discus.
Phillips (Glasgow, Mont.) won his second straight Summit League title in the javelin and qualified for the NCAA West Prelims. He owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA with majors in exercise science and psychology.
Rodin (Kenmare, N.D.) is an agricultural economics major with a 4.0 GPA. He is a member of the Bison 4x400m relay team that qualified for the NCAA Championships and won the conference title. Individually, Rodin advanced to the national quarterfinals in the 800m and is No. 3 all-time at NDSU in the event.
Samyn (Winnipeg, Manitoba) captured his second consecutive Summit League crown in the 1500m, running a personal-best 3:47.37. He owns a 3.93 cumulative GPA with a major in biological sciences.
To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team’s competitions. The award is voted on by the institutions’ faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors.
