Education

From the vibrant halls of Accra Academy, where my journey began, to the scientific rigor of Accra Technical University, I laid the foundation of my academic pursuit. 🏫 Moving forward, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology sculpted my understanding of Environmental Science, leading me to delve deeper into its complexities with a BSc. (Hons) and later an MSc. 🌍 Furthering my knowledge, I traversed to the Czech Republic, where the University of Pardubice broadened my horizons in Public Administration. Eventually, my quest for understanding led me to the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, where I attained a Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry and Technology, specializing in Ecotoxicology. 🎓

Work history

As an academic journeyed from assisting in ecotoxicology research to lecturing at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, their passion for environmental science shines through. 🌱 During their doctoral years in Prague, they delved into wood leachate and constructional waste’s impact on aquatic life, mastering statistical analysis tools like GraphPad Prism. In Amsterdam, they explored micro-plastics’ toxicity on soil invertebrates, honing skills in ecotoxicological tests and bioaccumulation assessments. Their earlier stint as Assistant Operations Manager at Waste Landfills Company Ltd equipped them with practical insights into waste management, tender preparation, and staff training. 🗑️

Research experience

In their academic journey, the researcher embarked on a multifaceted exploration 🌿 of environmental ecotoxicology, delving into various aspects of pollutant impact on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Their Ph.D. work centered on assessing the ecotoxicological effects of wood leachates on aquatic organisms 🦆, utilizing duckweed, algae, and daphnia as bio-indicators. Concurrently, they investigated the environmental repercussions of concrete and concrete waste on Lemna minor and Daphnia magna. Through consultancy and thesis supervision, they extended their expertise, aiding Master’s students in researching spruce chips leachate ecotoxicity and concrete waste impact. Their broad spectrum of research endeavors reflects a dedicated commitment to understanding and mitigating environmental threats. 🌍

Research focus

Rev. Can. Prof. J.J.M Martey, a Senior Lecturer at Methodist University College with previous experience as the rector of IPS School of Business studies, specializes in the intersection of environmental ethics and sustainable development. 🌱 His research focus delves into the ethical dimensions of environmental management practices, exploring how principles of stewardship and social responsibility can inform sustainable policies and actions. Prof. Martey’s work not only contributes to academia but also fosters a deeper understanding of the moral imperatives driving environmental conservation efforts, inspiring action towards a more sustainable future. 📚
