AVCA Release | List of Award Winners
Lexington, Ky. – Fordham volleyball has been announced as one of more than 1,200 collegiate and high school teams to earned a 2022 United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic award, the third straight year the Rams have earned the honor, the fourth time in the last five years, and seventh all-time.
“I’m proud to see our team getting it done in the classroom.” Head coach Ian Choi said, “I’ve always remarked on how academic and athletic excellence is mutually beneficial. At an academically rigorous institution like Fordham, it’s not easy to do. Happy for the squad and always excited to hear about their exciting opportunities after graduation.”
Fordham first earned the award in 2010 and did so again in 2011 and 2014. In Choi’s first year in the Bronx, in 2018 as an assistant coach, the team garnered academic recognition once again, and have now done so in three straight years.
The Rams saw 12 student-athletes earn placement on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, as well, which requires a 3.0 or better GPA for the 2021-22 academic year. The AVCA award, initiated in 1992-93, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long GPA of 3.3 or better on the 4.0 scale.
