NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – The University of Richmond women’s lacrosse team has been named an Academic Honor Squad by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). To qualify for this prestigious honor, programs must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
On top of the team honor, 10 Spiders were named to the IWLCA’s Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Taking home this year’s honors were Caroline Atkinson (Sr. Business Admin., Finance and Entrepreneurship concentration), Jillian Becker (Sr. Mathematical Economics), Emilie Bloyer (Jr. Biochemistry/Molecular Biology), Kat Kelley (Jr. Rhetoric & Communications Studies), Lauren Kingsbury (Sr. Business Admin., Finance concentration), Marina Miller (Sr. Rhetoric & Communications Studies), Evelyn Roberts (Sr. Business Admin., Marketing concentration), Daniela Stelcer (Jr. Business Admin., Marketing and Entrepreneurship concentration), Arden Tierney (Jr. Business Admin., Marketing concentration) and Brittney Wright (Gr. Liberal Arts).
Demonstrating a commitment to both academic and athletic excellence, the Spiders posted a 14-4 overall record and an 8-1 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play in 2022. The Spiders were a perfect 9-0 at home at Robins Stadium, including a victory over No. 16 Stanford.
Under the direction of Anne Harrington, the Spiders finished the year fourth in the country in assists per game at 8.11 and 13th in the nation in scoring defense, limiting opponents to just 9.5 goals against per game. Richmond recorded 11 different top 25 marks in NCAA stat categories during the season and took home 10 Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors as well as two major A-10 end-of-year awards.
