Publication Profile

Academic Qualifications

Garcia’s academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná (UENP) in 2016, where his research emphasized the impact of small hydroelectric plants on fish communities in the Jaguariaíva River. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Ecology of Continental Aquatic Environments at the Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM), focusing on using ecomorphology and diet to analyze the influence of environmental conditions on fish assemblages in neotropical streams. Garcia recently completed his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences at the Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL) in 2024, under the guidance of Ana Paula Vidotto Magnoni and co-supervision by Rosemara Fugi. His doctoral research delved into the mechanisms influencing the trophic interactions of ichthyofauna and food resources in neotropical rivers.

Teaching

Garcia has also been actively involved in academia and environmental education, serving as a professor of Ecology and Biological Sciences at various institutions, including the Universidade Estadual do Norte do Paraná and the Centro Universitário das Faculdades Integradas de Ourinhos. His roles included teaching, developing educational materials, and conducting field research on fish ecology.

Research Focus

Thiago Deruza Garcia’s research predominantly focuses on aquatic ecology with a specific interest in the impact of human activities on freshwater ecosystems and fish communities. His work spans the ingestion of microplastics by fish in varied environments, the ecological roles and trophic interactions of fish, and the effects of hydroelectric plants on aquatic life. Additionally, Garcia investigates the spatial and temporal dynamics of fish populations and the importance of body size in predator-prey relationships. His contributions significantly advance the understanding of environmental conservation in neotropical regions. 🌊🐟🔬🌍
