Dr. Komlavi Akpoti is a highly experienced expert in water resources management, hydrological modeling, and climate change adaptation, with a strong focus on sustainable development and food security. Since March 2022, Dr. Akpoti has led hydrological modeling efforts in the Digital Innovation for Water Secure Africa (DIWASA) project, contributing to the development of various water accounting tools and dashboards for Africa. His work spans multiple regions, including Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, and Zambia, where he supports key projects on water accessibility and aquaculture development.

Dr. Akpoti also plays a pivotal role in the e-ReWater project, utilizing AI and Earth observation data to enhance wastewater reuse in the MENA Region. His expertise extends to the Volta Basin project, where he leads stakeholder engagements, data preparation, and training for multi-scale water accounting.

Research Experience

From 2019 to 2022, Dr. Akpoti served as a Research Fellow in Environmental Engineering at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani, Ghana. He contributed to the World Bank’s Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence project, focusing on the water-energy-food nexus. He also led proposal development and funding applications, playing a crucial role in resource management strategies.

Education

Dr. Akpoti holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and Management from the University of Energy and Natural Resources, where his research focused on geo-spatial predictive modeling of land suitability for rice production in Togo and Benin. He also holds an MSc in Climate Change and Energy from the Abdou Moumouni University, where he researched the effects of rainfall variability on hydropower generation in the Black Volta Basin. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Lomé.
