Subsequently, he earned his RNDr. (Rerum Naturalium Doctor) degree in chemistry and physical chemistry in 1979 from the same institution. His pursuit of academic excellence culminated with a CSc. (Candidatus Scientarium) degree, equivalent to a PhD, in chemistry and biochemistry from the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Prague, in 1985. His doctoral thesis focused on the analysis and preparation of peptides and proteins using isotachophoresis.
